Merry Christmas!

A bit late, but better late than never!

I hope all of you had a good Christmas and lots of prezzies!!

We are finally back in Addis after a tour of the North of Ethiopia where we had no internet...

Ah the North, incredible!! I don't even know where to start with the descriptions......

My favorite town maybe of Lalibella; for those of you who, like me, thought Petra was a wonder think again and try checking out photos of Lalibella's churches carved in solid rocks..... AMAZING!!!! Breath taking!!! The view, the monks, the priests..

Basically it is King Lalibella (Lal means honey in Amharic) and ibella means eater as the king was born with bees around his head and honey; went on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and came back to Ethiopia to build his own Jerusalem. So in the 12th or 13th century, a set of (I think!) 13 churches were builts or carved in rocks.

Ahhhhhhh amazing amazing amazing!!!! The pilgrims come from all Ethiopia to do their pilgrimage (we're talking Christian Orthodox by the way!)

The people in the village were great, there was a huge market, we wondered around, people were adorable... I ended up with at least a page full of emails of people met in town that just wanted to chat and stay in touch..... it was great... loved loved it...

Ok, now I have to go.... to..... IMMIGRATION OFFICE!!! eheheh As my visa will expire an hour before I check in at the airport.... so more later......

Merry christmas!!!!

Ethiopia

Ethiopia so far is a big flop!

But if I'm completely honest, Addis isn't a nice city to be in..... I miss Kampala!!

The nun thing turned out to be a disaster, I lasted a night there only.

Fistula hospital public relation woman was a super bitch, not willing to help at all in any means of ways. so... so far as I can see it, I should have stayed in Uganda! :) No, I have another idea for a project here, it's been discussed already with a couple of people here that could be directly involved so crossing fingers we manage to set something up before I go....

I'm ill, been sleeping a lot mainly....

First day on the job: learning about minerals and their quality
All these were my thoughts of a couple of days ago.... Things are getting better now.... Couple of good prospects on the way which Girma (our guide + friend) have been working hard on.... Should be good :)

Had a great day today with the brother of an acquaintance, his name is Burik (Pronounced Brook); he showed me a great side of Addis but also made me discover the BEST coffee place in the world... It's honestly the best coffee I had.... Ever.....

Harar old city
These were again the events of a couple of days back..... Since we went to Harar with my father and his business partner for work.... A super interesting time, where you feel everything got stuck in the Middle Age and never changed... The bartering, the 'basic' of people, and even the hyenas sharing the street with humans, cats and dogs... Every impressive.... Every weird but such a wonderful city..... Markets, the camel market where people come from Djibouti, Somalia and Saudi to buy camels, cattle.. Then the Tchat market, the equivalent of the gold market in Ethiopia I think, the amount of money circulating, the people, everything.. wow wow wow... This city really captured me...... The women, the colours, crazy wonderful!!

Lots of beautiful memories...... Now back in Addis.. I now see this city through a different eye, but still Kampala remains on my mind.......

I had Indian food tonight, I'm very happy.....
